Adam Moseley is a British music mixer, producer and engineer who started his career at the legendary Trident studios in London, where he worked with and learned from many great producers, engineers and artists including Phil Ramone, Tom Dowd, Mutt Lange, Steve Lillywhite, Tina Turner, The Cure, Jose Carreras, Michael Brecker, Branford Marsalis, Maxi Priest, Galliano, Richard Marx, Baaba Maal, The Buggles, Wet Wet Wet, Roxette, Rod Stewart, Kiss, Rush…. and Hoagy Carmichael. Adam was also involved in many punk, disco and new wave hits of the era.
After relocating to Los Angeles 20 years ago, Adam managed The Boat studios in Silver Lake from 2003 to 2010, and worked on many music and film projects, including projects with Beck/Jack White, Nikka Costa/Lenny Kravitz/Prince, Wolfmother, AJ Croce and Spike Jonze. Other studio clients included Ben Harper, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Avril Lavigne, Warpaint, Tenacious D and Cat Power. Recently, he has recorded and mixed new albums with John Cale (Velvet Underground), and mixed several film scores and TV projects, including work with Nathan Barr (The Son,The Big Wedding, The Americans, True Blood), Spike Jonze (I’m Here), Matthias Weber (The Dark Valley, Oscar shortlisted 2015), and Lisbeth Scott (Dry, nominated 2015 BON awards). Adam is the associate producer, music supervisor, sound and music mixer for The Terry Kath Experience, a music documentary about the great guitar legend. Adam also mixed Nathan Pacheco’s second album, with beautiful contemporary classical crossover opera arrangements and compositions by Leonardo De Bernardini. Other recent credits in alternative indie, synth pop, electronic and rock genres with various artists, including Otm Shank, Braves, Eriel Indigo, Lone Kodiak, and Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos). Adam’s vast experience ranges from tracking with classic Trident, Neve, API and SSL consoles to utilizing ProTools HD, Ableton Live technology and Plugin Alliance plugins. He also has a wealth of experience in recording, editing and mixing large orchestral sections to obtain and create the best performances, and mixing them with MIDI elements and other acoustic or virtual instruments, drums and programming. When mixing orchestral arrangements, Adam mixes with the score, to best capture and present each element.
With such a vast wealth of experience to draw from, Adam is able to adapt and apply the appropriate knowledge, techniques and colours to very diverse genres, styles, projects and artists… and pursue his concept of exploring and creating three dimensional sound in music production, recording, arrangement and especially in his mixing. This concept for mixing creates deep, emotional and dynamic mixes in any music genre. With equipment and endorsements from Barefoot Sound speakers, Ableton Live, PMI Audio Group (Trident, Joe Meek, etc) and Apogee Converters, Adam is able to work in his own mixing studio suite and create rich and dynamic mixes as he explores and achieves dimension and exceptional emotion in his style of mixing, in many genres of music and for a wide range of media.
Since 2012, Adam has been an Instructor in the UCLA Extension Independent Music Production Certificate. In the short interview below, Adam briefly describes his approach to mixing and his exploration of concepts to visualize and create stereo mixes in a deep, emotional and dynamic perspective.
