ou gain an advantage by using the Master Compressor's 'Opto' component directly, as it offers a small display size and plenty of features, without needing to open the main Master Compressor window.

I state that I have a vast collection of plugins from Plugin Alliance and other famous brands and at first I was skeptical about yet another release of an opto compressor (I also own the Class A Mastering compressor by Shadow Hills Plugin Alliance).
Taken out of curiosity I downloaded the demo and I didn't waste time testing it on those tracks that I consider to be among the most problematic (voice with wild dynamics, semi-acoustic guitar with too wide dynamic excursions...).
It didn't take me much to jump out of the chair and understand that it's not yet another common opto compressor plugin, but a real gem that allowed me to get excellent results thanks to the various options of speed, ratio, tone (stunning), the already known transformers and not least the wonderful sidechain section that also allowed me to monitor the signal sent to the sidechain.
Icing on the cake are also the TX harmonics and drive controls that if used properly give other possibilities to enrich the final tone.
After realizing that it was not the same reground plugin I put it in the cart and bought without thinking twice even though I had decided not to buy any more plugins.
Finally, if you know what you want to achieve, this OptoMax is a really powerful and versatile weapon that goes from problem solving to tone sculpture.
Great guys and thanks for the final discount ;) Love it

Okay, I just spent the last two hours comparing only the optical compressors of the Class A mastering compressor and the OptoMax compressor. I found the compressors when set identical are indeed identical with the ratio at Med on the OptoMax, however I really liked the Harmonics, Tone, and Ratio options a lot on the OptoMax. The optical section of the Class A Mastering compressor doesn't have a ratio, it is only on the discrete compressor. OptoMax doesn't offer M/S which I use a lot for mastering. I think this compressor will fit nicely in my mixing projects.
I tried it out on an indie rock song on vocals, bass, guitar and drums and I found it superb! I mix music for a living and been doing this a very long time, but everything in this industry is subjective and I suggest try before you buy.
