Delay throws are a great mixing trick, using a delay effect on isolated words or phrases in a vocal, beat or melody, to add drama and excitement to a fill or transition section in a track. They can help emphasise a vocal line or theme, fill in rhythmic gaps for extra interest, and generally add depth and movement to your mix.

Delay throws are often combined with other effects such as equalization (EQ) to shape the repeats to fit well with the rest of the mix, reverb to place it in a particular acoustic space, and even distortion to add grit and intensity. This layering of effects allows for a wide palette of creative possibilities, from subtle, ethereal whispers to bold, dramatic statements.
