Michael Brauer played a vital role during the development of the Brainworx bx_console SSL 9000 J, as he knew all subtleties of the console having used the hardware for so long. So it was, of course, important for us to have him as close as possible during each phase. We were thrilled by his feedback, and even more so when he mentioned that he would like to do the presets for the bx_console SSL 9000 J.
Michael sat down with us to give us a sense for why this line of consoles has been so important to him and so many other engineers, and why it’s still relevant today.
Brauer (7 Grammy Awards) is easily among the world’s most respected and influential mixing engineers. He has worked with a tremendous number of top-tier artists from Coldplay to Grizzly Bear, John Mayer to James Bay, Aretha Franklin to Luther Vandross, and so many more. He has been using SSL consoles since the mid nineteen eighties. But according to him, it wasn’t until the introduction of the Solid State Logic (SSL) SL 9000 J in the mid-nineties that he truly fell in love forever, and considered himself an SSL user “for life”.
