  • Useful in Stereo Mastering

I've used the AMEK 250 EQ plugin on many clients' stereo masters. I work with a lot of analog tools, but analog isn't always the best solution. Sometimes a mix already has all the analog "mojo" and I don't want to add any more. When I reach for a plugin, in those times, I'm looking for clean but I still want the response of the analog hardware and this tool delivers. It's one of my go-to EQs for mid/side processing in mastering.
  • I looked at the competitors

Looked at all the top competitors, and concluded that the AMEK has the best feature set, and exquisite sound. This is the EQ that I'll be using for mastering going forward. I love the gain scale knob. You can turn it up to see if your moves sweeten up nicely or get ugly. Works great in mid/side. Honestly, one of Brainworx's best plugins.
  • Focusrite d2 replacement

i was looking a plugin similar to Avid Focusrite d2 EQ "d3 is compressor", i can copy same settings, and have similar results with minimal tweaking, but improved algorithm.
d2/d3 were designed decades ago when DSPs were Not as powerful, ProTools MIX24 TDM Nubus Farm card, were designed to be as DSP efficient as possible. most plugin-alliance plugins are designed the opposite, to be as accurate as possible "No compromises" = more DSP.
    EQ250 eats 73% of 1x DSP at 96KHz.
some plugins are Not worth the extra DSP, this one does.
EQ250 cannot be used in all channels, too much DSP, but for Master is ok.
plugin alliance should make a LiteEdition "LE" or "CR" Cost Reduced Version, with less DSP consumption, to use in more tracks.
    Focusrite d2 v18.8 eats 20% 1x DSP at 96KHz
    EQ250-cr with 33% DSP is acceptable, even 20% - 25%.
sounds amazing, clean, transparent, crystal, Not digital.
d2/d3 is a bit more aggresive, probably because the transformers, EQ250 requires more aggressive settings, but will never be the same because internal differences in hardware.
Both are in similar class but EQ250 goes beyond d2 limits.
Focusrite d2 eq is also very similar to Digidesign Forte Suite TDM ISA Blue EQ, for older HD DSP Accel, almost identical, Blue EQ sometimes had nicer sound at some settings but was 95% the same.
Modern Midnight plugins & New Red 2 | 3 Plugin Suite VSTs have Nothing in common with older Digidesing d2/d3 & Forte Suite RTAS/TDM/AAX.
features are missing, cannot be same algorithm.
i never liked CPU plugins, thats the problem.
  • my final eq on the mixbus

I cheat: I put an analyzer instance of Ozone Elements on the mixbus and imitate it's EQ curve with the amek (delete the Ozone afterwards, of course). Lol, it's not how it's supposed to be but works great for me. I let Ozone play the brain and use the full advantage of the fine, analogue sound of the Amek which is like all PA emulations a huge win for all mixes. Plus I usually do some mid/side eq on the mixbus with it. Great product.

I downloaded the trial and then bought it immediately. When combined with the AMEK Mastering Compressor and the Black Box, you can create a complete mastering chain that will bring your projects up to industry standard.
Seriously, I added this to project I'd been struggling with. I'd tried all kinds of competitors products - including an emulation of the Sonteq 432 - and I just couldn't get the sound I wanted. The track always ended up squashed and lifeless. It was this EQ (and the AMEK compressor) that finally did the trick. Get this one. Get them both.
I even compared this right beside that 432 emulation, matching settings, and this was better. I even tried on the 432 to match the sound, without matching the settings exactly, and I still couldn't do it. This one was fuller, warmer, and just better in every way. The extra features added by bx and PA were what really put it over the top.
I'll be using this on every master probably for the rest of my career. It just does exactly what I need it to.

  • Solid Master EQ

I use it mainly on my master buss as an MidSid EQ. Does a solid EQ work in that function. I tried the AMEK 200 and I like this one better. Sounds fuller/rounder on the lows and very highs to my ears. Nice that you can turn on/off the THD. The 5 bands plus LP and HP filters are more than enough as a Master EQ. Great plugin. Thanks!

Able to dial in on hard to find frequencies very nicely! Excellent design and very helpful how it mutes the other channels when dialing something in. Very smooth sounding. Excellent plugin!
  • Amazing sounding EQ

I am really impressed with the 250 EQ! I first compared the 200 with the 250, since I really like the 200. They do sound different but can be used on many different sources. I personally liked the 250 on vocals, strings, and the mix buss. The lows are very deep and can make a thin sound, sound thick with out sounding muddy. Overall the 250 sounds amazing on everything and gives a clean, exciting sound!
