I own several different amp vst's. from Brainworx as well as competitors. Time and time again I find my self back to the savage 120. It is hands down the best! I never need third party IRs! The bx kicks ass!! Thanks PA great sound and workflow time saver!

I love this amp sim from Brainworx. Honestly it is one of my top amp sims currently, and beats out brands like Neural DSP for some songs where I want the specific characteristic of this amp. It has a nice tight and punchy distortion characteristic (as opposed to a looser and dirty distortion of something like a 5150 by comparison). That is as long as I use 3rd party cab IRs for it. The cab IRs that come with all brainworx amps are quite honestly terrible, and I wish they would start outsourcing the IR creation to someone who knows how to do it well (like what most successful amp sim companies do these days. Hiring Nolly, Mikkos, or Bogren to make their IRs). If it wasn’t for my 3rd party IRs this plugin would never be something I would use by itself otherwise. Overall the coding for the amp head itself is out of this world though!

To be honest, I did not really like the two older Engl plugins very much, if compared with some other Brainworx amp simulations, they just sounded a little bit too sharp and harsh for my taste, but the Savage 120 really is a sonic masterpiece, if you look for convincing, very British / Plexi voiced tones. In some aspects much more flexible adjustable than most other amps, with four - in my opinion - equally wonderfully voiced channels. Widely tweakable in all 4 channels, very convincing tones with great dynamic response and wonderful, if not perfect harmonics reproduction, which you individually can adjust to almost everything between a lot of different vintage and modern voicings. Most probably the best British voiced Clean channel, I have ever heard from a modern multi-cannel amp (I always preferred British voiced clean tones over American voiced ones), two different, even greater - more or less Plexi voiced - Crunch channels and an excellent Lead channel, which is not only suitable for Metal, but of course also. For me the one amp, which another (British) company never managed to build themselves. Neither with this sonic quality nor with so many useful features for additional, individual sound shaping. The plugin itself sounds, behaves and reacts very authentically, I personally think, much closer you cannot really come to a real tube amp with a simulation plugin at the moment. Great programming work, especially concerning dynamic reaction, treble, harmonics and natural feeling. The speaker / cabinet selection also sounds fine, although I personally are not such a big fan of V30 speakers. My favorite speaker / cabinet combination for the Savage 120 is a 212 or 412 cabinet with Celestion Ruby‘s (sonically more or less a G12M with alnico magnet), miked with an SM57 / R121 combination. They seem to improve the anyway already great tones even more, and match - for my taste - perfectly well with this amp. Killer combination. At least for me.

I'm typically a Neural DSP guy when it comes to guitar plugins. But holy crap, this thing is good. IMO, if you're recording heavy guitars, it's hard to find a better sound in the box. Different, sure, but better? I'm not convinced. In particular, if you're quad-tracking guitars, the tight, defined, and aggressive sounds in this box are gonna be your mix's new best friend. This is a winner.
