I like this compressor a lot because you can go credit m Suttle to extreme to give you a wide variety of options on shaping your sounds , also it offers frequency selection to hone in on the part of the signal you want to effect the most and a possiblilty of not having to add an equalizer to the chain, less can be more .

I have several other tube simulators - which are also very good. What I did really like with Black Box AD is how the controls let you fine tune your distortion. It is not a one knob distortion level, with the pentode and triode settings you can really just get a light distortion on the highs and slightly brighten an instrument.

Wow, I have been Engieering for 18 yrs and this is by far the best plugin i ever bought. Plugin Alliance you did your thing on this one. I use the Black Box on my organ track and it blew me away, and i use it for mastering too.

This is probably one of the 3 best plug-ins I have purchased. I can highly recommend this one - brings the sounds forward in the mix better than the rest of my plug-ins - a must-have in my opinion

It has taken seven minutes to become my go-to-plugin on my masterbus.
It can bring your mix two steps forward like no other plugin can do.
The HG2 adds harmonics and saturation to your track and can polish the result in a fantastic way.
Boring basstracks or lame snaresounds come back to life.
I can't imagine to work without the HG2!
    Wonderful!

HG-2 color and saturate like analog gear, since I bought it has found its way into at least half the projects I've been working with. Phenomenal at raising the perceived loudness, I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for the lack of gain staging control. It would've been easy to add an auto-gain function to make it easier to hear the difference pre/post the plugin, you can do it manually but why not use some of the great things with the digital world when you easily can.
    Plugin Alliance response
Thanks for the review. We decided against auto-leveling because most systems I have heard do not really work EXACTLY how you would dial it in. With our A/B/C/D settings you can switch between 2 setups easily. Most of our users use this plugin to raise the volume or perceived loudness of a signal anyway, so ultimately we decided to not add more plugin-only features. It's always a trade off between not making things too complicated and finding the right set of controls to please as many people as possible.Thank you, and enjoy your new plugin. Dirk.

actually got this 4 free! (check promos, discounts etc). Thks P.A
watch support videos for good explanation of triodes & pentodes etc, then dial in to taste!.
I use on tracks, busses, parallel, sound design & master sauce.
versatile, gorgeous, engineer's secret type, saturator & harmonics plug.
preset show multiple combinations & uses.
love its quality, ie air band, & subtle enhancements.
  • It sounds properly tubey...

I won't bore you: this sounds great, and infuses everything it touches with valve analogness. You can't get this sound from other plugins. It's really its own thing. I like it to the point where I'm tempted to buy the hardware version, although I own tube gear and this sounds really close to my trained ear. Brainworx did a commendable job coding this fantastic-sounding tool. HG-2 does what it's told and puts the tubeness in the DAW.
