  • Sounds fantastic

Stereoize mono electric guitar, acoustic guitar or any acoustic instrument with this and it just sounds fantastic. Mono compatibility is very good and not sure how they did that, but it is. The only potential fly in the ointment is relatively high latency, but usually not an issue for mixes. Its a one trick pony, but not sure it can be beat at the one thing it does. For zero latency, the Fiedler Audio Stage from PA has a reasonably similar sound with its default setting and also has good mono compatibility. I bought them both since they do sound enough different to have both IMO and the Fiedler does a lot of other things.

I have yet to find a plugin that does what this does. And it continues to impress me with its high quality – free of any artifacts that I can spot, the whole concept is just very well implemented. When you need to diffuse or move back a mono sound, this is the subtle, elegant way to do it.

I haven't left many plugin reviews but wanted to leave my $0.02 here. Fact is, I buy more plugins than I use - or know how to use. Mono Upmix, however, is a plugin that I really like for mono tracks. It's easy and it works. I record both mono acoustic and mono electric guitars regularly and often put this plugin on to create a stereo space these sounds are happening in. Reduces need to EQ - just makes mono sources sound more "there". bx_stereomaker does something similar. I use them both. They're an easy bit of magic dust.

Works extremely well. Great as the first step for placing things in a perceptual environment for a binaural mix.

Good for mono recordings that need some room while reverb doesn't get good results. This one really feels like it was recorded with 2 mics.

Normally when I record classical music, I use a stereo mic'ing technique. But for a recent concert video I had to mic a flute and guitar duo individually. It was a good sound, but it didn't have the sense of space and depth I would have gotten with a stereo mic. Mono Upmix came to the rescue. Immediately I got the sound I was hoping for. It gave the recording space and depth. It was very real in its quality and I will use it without hesitation any time a recording needs it.
Having experimented with other music, such as a jazz recording I did, I don't think it gave the same benefit as all the instruments were closely mic'd and it didn't seem to fit the aesthetic, but that doesn't take away from Mono Upmix being a wonderful tool.
  • Unbelievably useable

Have used this for about a year now and it just works wonders on almost any mono material. Earlier I used to turn to a slew of plugins for the same effect. Now i just dial in the channel EQ and add this last to help positioning the source.
I also pretend my mixing translates better now.
    I highly highly recommend this.

Very much needed for close miked sources, almost an ambience reverb, but still not that much, waited for something like that for years. Pity , that it behaves so bad in Digital Performer, the DAW gets confused somehow and can't identifiy stereo or mono attributes, so it gives an error when I want to place something else after or even before it in inserts.

Extraordinary algorithm that obviously shines in audio post but is fantastic for music production as well. Very realistic in creating subtle spaces for instruments that should stay in the background – forget traditional panning and reverb… this is the way to go.

Good and fast plugin not just for the bold imaging but for leveling (adds each sound unique space without diving in physical modelling like the use of EQ and reverb). One of the top plugins for me to get extra clarity and depth from mono sources in a trustful way. Very helpful UI visualizing things where the soundsource is placed and how much blur is applied. For that reason earns a 5 s rating and without overhyping it really. Could live without it but it makes the whole process more simplified.
