Based out of Canada, Colin brings a unique perspective to the music industry in that he has successful careers in both Dance Music and in the Cinematic Trailer universe. Having a long-respected credits list in the Dance Music scene as Soundprank, he’s now devoting a lot of energy toward composing and scoring for trailers.

Having just worked on the worldwide reveal trailer for the upcoming video game Quake Champions, which was met with massive acclaim and set the internet on fire at this year’s E3; his burgeoning career as a composer has him seeing big things in the future. Being keen to work as an educator in the industry he has also created highly successful learning content for Lynda.com and Sonic Academy, aimed at helping anyone at any skill-level to improve their skills and techniques so they can make the best music possible.

  Millennia NSEQ-2

  This thing freaking rocks. If you're a Pultec fan, this is right up your alley. It's got the vintage musicality and literally nothing sounds bad going through it. What makes it a mainstay in my sessions is the shear versatility of the thing, it's a great flavor addition to tracking and mixing, but also thrives on the mixbuss and in mastering scenarios because of how many settings it has. Chances are, if you're not feeling the vibe with the JFETs enabled, flip on the tubes and suddenly it just fits like a puzzle piece - and vice versa.

  Brainworx bx_digital V3

  This is my go-to surgical EQ for imaging. It's one of very few digital EQs that I feel comfortable to do dramatic boosts on because of how smooth the top-end sounds and the lack of aliasing and phasing in all bands. I use it on every session and it's one of those plugins where you had no idea what you were missing out on before you had it, but now that you do have it you can't live without it.

  Lindell Audio 254E

  This little box delivers mojo and that signature "console compression tone" in spades. It get's you the sound without all the fuss. It works fantastic as a dynamics shaping tool because of how musical the compression sounds going into the limiter section and you can smash this thing with compression for days. The signal never starts to break-up (as many plugins are want to do), and can give you shape, punch, and power on your program material that always sounds just right.

  Mäag Audio EQ4

  The Air-band alone on this little box makes it worth purchasing. Though small in features it does what so many equalizers cannot do, and can add top-end that's super silky, giving tracks more clarity and your percussion and vocals world-class definition. Don't forget about the other bands (including the sub-band), they're all extremely musical and really hit those tonal frequencies that can lift your tracks.

  Noveltech Character

  This modern-day exciter and tone enhancer is great for pulling up sections of frequencies and emphasizing the harmonics in a way that sounds REALLY good. The lack of analyzer or numbers in terms of frequencies forces you to dial it in purely by ear until it sounds just right. It's great for giving richness to audio that lets it cut through the mix without any phasing or clashing.

  SPL TwinTube

  This plugin delivers vacuum tube saturation for days, from subtle warmth to dirty grunge, it sounds fantastic on digitally harsh sounds, and absolutely KILLS on vocals and brassy material.

  Vertigo VSC-2

  One of the best compressors I've heard, period. The way it responds to an incoming signal and shapes dynamics removes any doubt about whether a plugin can sound as good or better than hardware. I use this extensively in my mixing and mastering sessions because it's dependable, has great flexibility with the non-linear 'soft' setting ratio and it's not uncommon that I will daisy chain a couple of these or run it in parallel to add weight to my mixes. A swiss-army knife of a unit, you need to try it out, the results will speak for themselves.

  Vertigo VSM-3

  This is probably one of the most interesting processors I have, because of how many colours it can create on program material. It excels at adding 3d space, warmth and harmonics to anything because of how you can stage the distortion circuits and drive them. It's a fantastic unit, and it pairs beautifully with the VSC-2 for adding control and mojo simultaneously.

  Unfiltered Audio Sandman

  Very few delay units get me excited these days, because very few have something new to offer. Along comes the Unfiltered Audio Sandman, the little box with a beating heart of an old forgotten place, where dreams blur into reality. The way this thing can grab onto the audio and keep it going in the delay stages is totally unique, and there simply is nothing else like it. Fantastic!

  Unfiltered Audio G8

  Every so often you come across a plugin that does things you don't expect. This plugin along with their Sandman delay unit are both a sound designer's dream because of their ability to take incoming audio, mangle it, and spit it out in unpredictable ways. From adding insanely weird amplitude modulations to greasy-smearing of transients, these add so much in terms of options to get sounds you didn't think were possible.

  This is a fantastic sound design and tone-shaping plugin that by way of its modular approach can completely transform dull synths into gritty, digitized-yet-soulful sounds! Brilliant!

  What I would consider the 'little' brother to Unfiltered Audio's Dent plugin, this is no lesser in terms of functionality and ease of use. I love how fast and quick you can get results that sound super aggressive and cutting.

  Unfiltered Audio Sandman Pro

  What made Sandman great is clearly present in this new iteration, but with the additional features that further transform this delay into something that spits out all kinds of happy accidents. I can only recommend that you record the whole time when using this plugin! The new algorithms are awesome and the interface is super easy to navigate.

  Brainworx bx_rooMS

  A great reverb for creating spaces that don't necessarily try to emulate the classic algorithms. With a clean sound that doesn't command too much attention to itself (in a good way!), it allows for easy integration into mixing. The weird side of this plugin is what gives it a place in my sound design bag of tricks.

  Black Box Analog Design HG-2

  This thing now lives on my two buss, and is one of a very few select saturation plugins that gets extreme repeated use in every project. I don't know how they did it, I don't know where they did it (or what they did), but I am extremely thankful they decided to! This thing is crazy.

  Unfiltered Audio Instant Delay

  I really love how fast I can dial in a great sounding delay effect with this. But, that's really only scratching the surface. This has quickly become a go-to for adding stereo width and overdriven tails on things, and it sounds great being pushed REALLY hard. Above all, the workflow and layout of the GUI makes it so fast and easy to use!

  A great secret weapon for adding body and low-end energy to all sorts of program material. Great for sound design as much as finding uses in turning a simple sine wave into utterly delicious insanity.
