Bx is on fire and taking it to the top. I’ve been using the Bx_SSL G and Bx_Focusrite since the start, and they have been present in most of my sessions with quick results, great sound and ease of use. This one is a step higher in sound quality as I have not been able to make it sound bad on any source in a mix (full disclaimer am in beta team and had quite some time to work with it, so way past the honeymoon days so to speak). The eq is cleaner than the previous SSL models yet sweet, it can be used in any type of session, from indie to pop to experimental music. The most impressive to me is the compressor : at higher settings of compression (low threshold, ratios 5 and above) it can smack the bejeezes on drums and electronic beats. Until now I have been using a combo of several compressors or other dynamic processes to get a percussive sound to smack, and this one delivers from one instance. At lower ratios and with mix knob, sc hpf it can be very smooth and unobtrusive. The GUI is also that bit smoother and clear than previous console iterations. Only the TMT can be wildly variable on stereo sources, but you can still assign the pairs of channels you like to several strips. Highly recommended.

Don't be like me! I was the guy who thought this began and ended with the bx_console E because I love the crunch and aggression. I assumed the J would be too clean and pretty and not have enough attitude. WRONG!! This just sounds great. The EQ is really aggressive - not in a harmonic distortion way, but fast and punchy. The compressor is really snappy sounding. Virtually everything ends up sounding better. And if you want a little more dirt, crank up the THD on one or all instances. This has replaced the E as my default strip. It works great on the ICON controller too, so it feels like a console in the hand as well. (In fairness, so does the bx E & G as well)
